Young volunteers keep vigil as strict lockdown is imposed in Ukhrul

Strict lockdown is being imposed in Ukhrul district by the district administration, keeping in view the high number of transmission of COVID-19 infection which was reported on Friday. Following it, civil organisations and young students have volunteered to keep vigil while police personnel are being deployed at strategic locations to monitor the movement in the district. 

SDPO Ukhrul, Thotreithing Chalamva, said police personnel are patrolling round the clock in Ukhrul headquarter and constant reminders are being announced through the PA system.

The SDPO expressed gratitude to the people of Ukhrul Town, including CVOs, for their massive response and support during the lockdown and appealed to continue with their support to fight the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Thawaijao Hungpung Young Student's Organisation (THYSO) is also keeping a strict vigil on the movement of vehicles and people so as to make the lockdown more effective and successful.

THYSO president Wungreingam Risom informed this correspondent that THYSO volunteers are being deployed at various locations to strictly monitor the movement. This will go on till August 6. He added that the pandemic is to be fought collectively as a community.

As observed, the public response is much more positive this time. Movement is allowed to those who are coming out for medical treatment.

On Friday, Ukhrul witnessed a high number of transmission as 46 more persons tested COVID-19 positive. Of the 46 new cases, 43 are Assam Rifles personnel who are quarantined at Industrial EstateTM Kasom quarantine centre, two are from Assam Rifles, Somsai and one is from Transit Quarter, Phungreitang, Ukhrul district.

The CMO Ukhrul on Friday informed this correspondent that a total of 159 Assam Rifles are currently undergoing quarantine at Industrial Estate, TM.Kasom quarantine centre, Ukhrul.
