After a few days of lull in COVID-19 cases, Ukhrul witnessed a high number of transmission with 46 more persons testing COVID-19 positive on Friday.
Of the 46 new cases, 43 are Assam Rifles personnel who are quarantined at Industrial EstateTM Kasom quarantine centre, two are from Assam Rifles, Somsai and one is from Transit Quarter, Phungreitang, Ukhrul district.
Chairman DDMA/DC Ukhrul has requisitioned Industrial Estate, TM Kasom under Section 65 (1) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 as quarantine Centre for 27 Assam Rifles from July 15 to September 15 2020 or until further orders.
The order of July 15 stated that "necessary arrangement and management including logistic support of the quarantine centre will be borne by the 27 Assam Rifles, Somsai, Ukhrul.
“Additional DM, Ukhrul D Gangmei will be the officer in-charge of the said quarantine centre, and the appointed nodal officer of the 27 Assam Rifles shall liaise with him,” it said. D Gangmei informed that army personnel belonging to three battalions from Kamjong, Shangshak and Somsai are being quarantined at the said centre.
In this regard, District Magistrate of Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamson has issued an order on Friday declaring the whole campus of 27 Assam Rifles, Somsai and Transit Quarter, Phungreitang as containment areas, as a measure to prevent further spread of COVID-19. Whereas, Industrial Estate TM. Kasom quarantine centre was declared a containment area on July 25, 2020.
Meanwhile, CMO Ukhrul informed this correspondent that a total of 159 Assam Rifles are presently undergoing quarantine at Industrial Estate, TM.Kasom quarantine centre, Ukhrul.
Of the 243 samples sent for testing, 197 came negative while 46 tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, the CMO added.
