The pradhan of Lilong Atoukhong gram panchayat has been tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday after the pradhan of Moijing gram panchayat Thoubal district was earlier tested positive on July 14.
A total of four out of 106 people were tested positive today at the testing centre of Thoubal district hospital where the testing of those who came into contact with the volunteers of different community quarantine centres began from July 16. The pradhan of Lilong Atoukhong gram panchayat is among the four who were tested positive today.
Till date, a total of 756 people who were in contact with the volunteers were tested and 53 of them have been tested positive.
At present, there are 20 patients being lodged at the isolation ward of Thoubal district hospital, while 88 are being lodged at GNM School of Nursing.
On the other hand, 29 people from Thoubal district were tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. Of the total, 17 were tested at RIMS while another 12 were tested at Thoubal District Hospital and Moijing High School.
Meanwhile, two persons after privately conducting tests at Babina Research Institution were tested positive. They were picked from their respective residences and put at Thoubal covid care centre. Both of them are the children of a RIMS attendant who was earlier tested positive. One of them is an employee of Manipur University.
One woman hailing from Thoubal Khunou and another woman from Heirok were among the 12 people who were tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. In a case of local transmission, both women contracted the virus from their husbands who worked as CRPF personnel outside the state.
In another instance of local transmission, a 13-year- old girl from Thoubal Wangmataba tested positive on Wednesday after getting into contact with the GRS lady who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 within the same locality.
Meanwhile, district magistrate Thoubal has announced containment zones at five areas of the district today. The areas are South block of Yairipok Police Station; Wangjing Police Outpost; Bright Brain Academy, Lilong; Tangjeng Ningthou Flowers English school Thoubal and ground floor of YK college, Wangjing.
