COVID-19 in Manipur: Positive cases rise to 39

Manipur on Tuesday reported 39 COVID-19 cases as three more people tested positive for Coronavirus, according to the state health department.

Manipur on Tuesday reported 39 COVID-19 cases as three more people tested positive for Coronavirus, the state health department stated. It said that the three, all male, were among the 323 people tested for the virus at the VRDL, RIMS.

The health department stated in a release that all the three positive cases are from Imphal West district. Their samples were collected on May 20, and the results were brought out on Monday night.

With the three testing positive for COVID-19, the total number of confirmed cases and active cases in the state has risen to 39 and 35 respectively, according to the state department spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.

The infection has affected 11 out of 16 districts in the state.

Based on daily status of COVID-19 cases issued from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDPS) since the state has been affected by the pandemic, it has been found that out of total 39 cases, 18 patients are from Churachandpur; five are from Imphal West; four are from Thoubal; three are from Kamjong, two each are from Tengboupal and Imphal East while one each case has been reported from Bishnupur, Jiribam, Senapati, Kangpokpi and Noney.

Thirty-five patients are currently under treatment while four have recovered so far.

A release issued from IDPS on Tuesday said that the newly active was found positive among 323 individual tested at the VRDL, RIMS.  Their samples were collected on May 20, it said. The three patients who have tested positive on Monday are from Imphal West district, it added.

The patient are returnees who came from Chandigarh by train, Jorhat by car and Delhi by train, it further said while adding that they all are now admitted at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal (RIMS).

As per latest update from IDPS, the number of COVID-19 tests conducted today at RIMS was 321 and 380 at JNIMS. The number of results received today was 620 at RIMS and 572 at JNIMS, it said.

The cumulative number of positive tests result found at RIMS is 15 and 24 at JNIMS. The total number of test results received in the state is 6,233, it added.

The report also mentioned that number of new persons admitted at community quarantine today is 750, government quarantine is 357 and zero for home quarantine. The total number of persons currently under institutional quarantine is 3,026 and community quarantine is 9,687.

The update stated that number of person screened today was 485 for truckers and 404 commuters. Till date, 2, 20,438 people were screened in various locations.

The release stated that with the resumption of air services from May 25, a total of 448 passengers have arrived in four flights from different cities on the first day of its opening.  On Tuesday, 311 people arrived, it added.

They were screened for fever through the newly installed Whole Body Thermal Scanner.  Later, they were sent to their respective quarantine centres. They will remain in the centre till they are tested negative or till 14 days, it stated.
