To reduce hit and run cases, particularly during night hours, the state Home department needs to take precautionary measures by tightening securities and make proper functioning of CCTV cameras installed on streets, said Congress MLA Kh Joykisan on Friday.

Joykisan was speaking to the media while visiting sports journalist Yenshembam Samarjit at his residence located at Jaganath Ahouba Leirak near Heirangoithong, Imphal West.

Samarjit sustained a leg injury in a hit-and-run case that took place late September 12 at about 8.30 pm near Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai along Mayai Lambi road, Imphal West. He was hit by a white colour Bolero while returning from his office after finishing duty.

Joykisan said such hit and run cases frequently occur in Manipur. One of the reasons the culprits tried to escape from the place of incidence could be fear of mob lynching and mob violence that also frequently occur in the state, he added.

However, he or she can still visit Samarjit at his residence or can contact the All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) under humanitarian grounds, he added.

He also appealed to the government to take necessary precautionary measures by tightening security, especially during the night time and to strictly advise them to detain any person found drinking and driving in order to prevent road accidents.

Joykisan also extended monetary assistance to sports journalist of Ichel Express Yenshembam Samarjit and wished him a speedy recovery.
