Manipur HC, district courts to remain restricted except for urgent pending cases

The High Court of Manipur issued a notice on the restriction of court sittings till July 10.

Considering the extension of the ongoing lockdown up to July 31 as declared by the Government of India and subsequently by Government of Manipur till July 15, the High Court of Manipur issued a notice on the restriction of court sittings till July 10.

However, all courts in Manipur including High Court will take up motion and urgent pending cases. The court will function from 10.30 am to 4 pm with a lunch break from 1.15 pm to 2 pm during the restriction period.

The high court notice also mentioned that to support the government of Manipur's endeavour to combat COVID-19 given the rise in the number of positive cases, there is a need to address the COVID-19 situation by taking up precautionary and preventive steps in the interest, welfare and safety of the officials and staff of the courts, the members of the legal fraternity and litigants.

There is also a need to sanitize and fumigate the court halls, office chambers and other rooms in the High Court, district courts complexes to ensure the safety of the advocates, officials and staff of the registry or courts. Steps are being taken to procure equipment to sanitize the court records and files before being put to use. Registry is taking up certain steps, said sources.
