Congress workers not involved in attack on journalist: Manipur Congress
The clarification was made a day after media persons asked the MPCC spokesperson about the physical assault on a local journalist Rameshwor Elangbam.
No Congress workers or party members were associated with the recent attack on a journalist alleged to have been carried out by Heirok Block Congress workers, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president Kh Devbrata asserted on Wednesday.
The clarification was made a day after media persons asked the MPCC spokesperson about the physical assault on a local journalist Rameshwor Elangbam, during the press meet held in connection with the issue of Palace Compound.
Devbrata said that during the press conference held on Tuesday at Congress Bhawan BT Road, the MPCC could not respond to the query regarding the attack on the scribe. He said that after their thorough investigation at the incident site, the Congress committee learnt that not a single party worker was involved in the case.
If any of the workers is found guilty in connection with the case as the investigation is underway, the party will not compromise, he added.
He also said that the Congress party will chart out guidelines to be followed in the election campaigns which will be released within a week. The norm would help in avoiding any unwanted incident during the campaigns.
Stating about the relentless increase of pre-poll violence particularly in Heirok and Andro, Devbrata said that despite the state government having imposed CrPC 144 in the said areas, election-related violence still continues. The government should investigate the case at the earliest and deploy adequate security forces to contain the violence otherwise such activities may occur in other places as well.
The MPCC vice-president also drew the attention of the government on an alleged attack against a Congress intending candidate by a team of some other political parties. He further appealed to Chief Minister N Biren, who is also the home minister, to take serious note in maintaining law and order situation in the state and take up stringent action to control the pre-poll violence effectively.
