The Tree Planters secretary N Bijen Meitei urged the public of Heirok to safeguard the planted saplings from any kind of destruction and let them grow independently.

Bijen also drew the attention of concerned department while making any laws on forest, as there is no provision for penalty on felling of trees within non-forest areas so far. Trees planted in non-forest areas might be cut down at any time by anyone, be it government departments for public purposes or private land owners for their own purposes.

It is high time to amend such acts lest ther will be no need for planting tree saplings in non-forest areas, he lamented.

The treasurer of the organisation L Romesh Meitei said, “We should plant trees for generations to come. If we handed over a bad environment to the future generation, then they won't have any excuse for us. Trees are our life, they are priceless, we should plant more trees,” he said.

On Sunday, Inspector N Premjit, OC of the Heirok Police Station, planted a sapling as a part of the event held at the complex of Heirok Police Station located at Heirok part-2, Mayai leikai. He lauded the team and hoped that “many such organisations might spring up in the days to come."
