Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College Students' Union (SSBDMCSU) and Government Dance College Students' Union (GDCSU) jointly appealed to the authority concerned of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) not to take any initiative of affiliation of their colleges.
A joint release by SSBDMCSU and GDCSU stated that students of the said colleges have been demanding to allow them to pursue Master degree in MUC since 2020. But the university concerned allegedly did not accept the demand, violating the norm of UGC guidelines.
MUC had resolved not to take any students from Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College and Government Dance College in any grounds. The university even shifted its previous campus attached to the two colleges to somewhere in the month of April, 2021, it added.
The release continued that the future of the university is unpredictable as the number of student’s enrolment for master degree has been decreasing and at present there are less than 95 students in all the streams of music and dance. For bachelor degrees, there are no students as per information received from a reliable source.
Appealing not to approach the said music and dance colleges for affiliation, it stated that approaching the colleges just for the benefit of the university to save its future is not acceptable. Students of these colleges wanted to keep the traditional norm of learning (guru shiksha parampara) in their colleges. As such, MUC should not try for affiliation by luring the faculties of the colleges in providing good posts to them.
The two unions will not allow the affiliation until and unless comments and opinions are received from public and cultural activists, it added.
