“In Manipur there was no unique history of Nagas but there were Tangkhuls, Kabuis and others who follow different religions. People should not mention Nagas in the history of Manipur,” said intending candidate of Keishamthong assembly constituency Sapam Nishikant while attending an inauguration function of his team Nishikant office on Sunday at Nganapithpong and Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Imphal West.

He said that Nagas might have their own unique history but it is not related with the history of Manipur. Manipur has its own unique history and the hill people like Tangkhuls and Kabuis are brothers from the same stock.

While trying to solve the problem of Naga Peace Talks, the Central government should not give priority to a single community called Naga, he added.

He further said there are still issues regarding buying of lands in hill areas by the valley people. About 92 per cent of Manipur is hills and people of valleys should be allowed to buy lands in hills and the present policy implemented in the state is unfair.

A policy should be implemented so that people from any part of Manipur can buy land irrespective of hills and valleys so that unity can be brought among the people of hills and valleys, said Nishikant.
