UKHRUL, Jul 25: Meritorious awards for the six top Tangkhul subject scorers in the HSSLC and HSLC promotional examination were awarded today at a grand function organized by the Tangkhul Literature Society (TLS) at the Ukhrul Higher Secondary School conference hall at 11 am under the theme ‘8th Tangkhul Literature Award and Felicitation Programme’ on July 24.
The citation award to the top Tangkhul language subject scorers according to the TLS was selected, three each from Class XII and Class X. Among the three in HSSLC K. Yarmichon of Secred Heart Hr. Sec. School, Hundung scored the topmost marks of 91 followed by 80 marks each by Ramshangphi Shimrah and Glory Haorei, all from the same school.
In the HSLC 85 marks, 84 marks and 81 marks were secured by Ngachanphy Shangchiri of Ukhrul KTL School, Pemhorla A Shishak from St. John Bosco School, Hundung and Thotsophi Haoriah from Khamasom High School.
Addressing the crowded gathering of students, teachers, officials and mediamen, the chief guest on the occasion N Everest, ZEO Ukhrul spoke encouraging words to the upcoming Ukhrul students taking the serious challenge in upholding the important Tangkhul subject which is the mother tongue of the community and appealed to all the concerned teachers to make the maximum efforts in teaching the subject by appreciating and welcoming the leading marks scorers and teachers teaching them. He also promised the organizing society for a special gift and presentation.
C Luikham, retired IAS, guest of honour and also the former president of the TLS mentioned that the TLS was first established in 1938 by 12 hardcore members and out of them only one named NK Paul is surviving and is now 100 years old. He categorically emphasized the need of the hour in this new generation to clearly value the meaning of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
All the spokespersons and the gathering expressed a deep gratitude and appreciation to Soso Shaiza, guest of honour on the occasion at the good news of the only CBSE recognition being officially brought in Ukhrul for the first time. It was through her tireless efforts that the sanction of recognition of CBSE in Ukhrul as per the demands and interest of the whole Tangkhuls was brought in Ukhrul Little Angel School for the first time.
The function was conducted by Mark Chiphang with a Christian opening hymnal chorus song followed by a grace of prayer by Rev. Phanitphang and the key-note address was delivered by Kol. Kasar, vice president of the TLS. Traditional shawls and mufflers were given away to the chief guest, guests of honour and vote of thanks was given by the president, TLS Machung Pheiray before the closing prayer by Vareishing Zingkhai.
