Article 371 appears imminent in state, CPI raises concern
71st Manipur Kanba Numit celebratedIMPHAL | Sep 21
If Article 371 is extended in Manipur, the state government will have no power over Naga inhabitant areas and it will give a huge impact in the state resources, said state secretary, Communist Party of India (CPI) state unit, L. Sotinkumar.
He was speaking at the 71st Manipur Kanba Numit celebration held today at Irawat Memorial Hall, Chalou, Lamlai assembly constituency, Imphal East. The programme was organised by Irawat celebration committee.
The day is to commemorate the Pungdongbam Ghatna, 1948 wherein Irawat fully went underground during the time when his movement against the proposal of forming the ‘Eastern Province’ (Purbanchal Pradesh) propounded by Nehru led interim union government in order to establish an Indian state, was banned by the then king.
One officer-in-charge was killed in a clash between the Manipur police and the protestors at Pungdongbam , Imphal East.
Sotinkumar said BJP president, Amit Shah mentioned earlier that implementation of citizenship amendment bill (CAB) is included in its party manifesto, but it will not affect Manipur and other north eastern states. “Up to what extent Amit Shah’s statement will be true?” he questioned.
If CAB is implemented, it will affect Manipur and other north eastern states and the indigenous people of the region will become extinct gradually, he said. The people need to be cautious against the implementation of the Bill, he stated. BJP is trying to convert each section and community into Hindu and communist party will fight against the issue till last, he added.
Other than the CAB but the party will fight against other issues including border issue, he maintained.
As a part of the programme, floral tributes were paid to the memorial of Pungdongbam Ghatana and an office for Pheiroijam Parijat Memorial Trust was inaugurated.
Veteran leader, CPI, Naorem Tombi, Langoljam Kula, Thokchom Mangi, national executive member, CPI, Moirangthem Nara and others attend the function as presidium members.
