Nagas will not merge into the Union of India: NSCN-IM
IMPHAL | Sep 11
The NSCN-IM has opined that the Nagas will not merge with the Indian Union claiming that they represent the Nagas.
A release from the outfit’s ministry of information and publicity maintained the talk is between the Government of India (GoI) and NSCN as two entities and the question of stakeholders does not arise. The release said that the different groups of the Nagas despite the internal differences must be resolved and that Nagas must unite, that differences should be resolved and forgiven for the larger cause.
The outfit said that the Government of India is talking with the outfit for; NSCN represents the issues of Nagas that covers all the Nagas and their territories, village chiefs, civil societies, political parties and the churches and that the hard realities of which had been recognized by the then Prime Minister of India PV Narasimha Rao.
It pointed out that the interlocutor of the talks RN. Ravi, who is also Governor of Nagaland, has said that other groups should also be accommodated in the framework agreement for “there will be only one talk and one solution”.
Subsequently, NSCN general secretary, Th. Muivah in response has welcomed any party who wants to be part of the agreement.
“It will be a horrible loss for both Nagas and the Indians if they miss this second bus. No one should doubt that the framework agreement is the meeting point for the Nagas and the Indians. The Nagas and Indians are inseparably inter-related in many fields. We must learn to co-exist for mutual benefits”, it claimed.
Nevertheless, the outfit said the Nagas will not merge into Union of India. “Nagas are recognized entity. Nagas do not accept Indian Constitution, but Nagas will share powers based on competencies”, it maintained.
The outfit also called on fellow rebel groups to seize the opportunity by shedding the differences to finding the long-cherished solution of Independence.
“ The good Lord has open the door for the Nagas. We must seize the opportunity when it comes.
It is said, “To every problem there is a solution. ”
The ‘Framework Agreement’ officially signed and sealed between the GoI and NSCN is the meeting point for the war-ridden Indians and the Nagas on the one hand and the uniting point for the divided Nagas on the other, it quoted the late NSCN-IM supremo Isak Chishi Swu saying, “ We have forgiven the past mistakes of our brothers in different camps. They should also forgive our past mistakes and unite in the name of or Lord and savior Jesus Christ.”
