Pilferage amidst scarcity at the Manipur Bhawan Delhi reportedIMPHAL | Jul 14
Despite the presence of adequate drivers at Manipur Bhawan Delhi, officials are reportedly employing four drivers on daily wage payments, according to a reliable source.
The issue came to light after the newly employed drivers were found to have added their signatures on the daily attendance record book of the Bhavan.
Since there were no shortages of drivers, the unwarranted employment of the four drivers by the officials of the Bhavan has drawn flaks from the public while demands have also been made for the State government to investigate the matter closely. And, it seems that the authorities of the Bhavan are acting independently out of their own vested interests.
According to information received by the IFP, there are 10 regular drivers and three drivers on contract along with a driver who has been re-engaged after retirement.
“The drivers are not usually engaged in heavy duties; and even though, there might be rushes in their schedules during visits of MLAs and VIPs,” said the complainants adding that if there were any shortages, then notifications for employment of new drivers could have been issued.
“It is clear that there is no governing authority over Delhi Manipur Bhawan with the re-engagement of a retired reception officer and the LDC who have resumed duties,” said the source.
This sort of policy will provide no advantage for future employees when many residents of Manipur are languishing from unemployment issues, added the source. Meantime, the reengagement of retired officials has created huge inconveniences for official residences of newly employed staff with some of them having to compromise by living in rented apartments or rooms.
Manipur Bhavan Delhi is located in two separate places at the capital of the Nation, one at Chanakyapuri while the other is situated at Sardar Patel Marg. While the Manipur Bhavan at Kolkata is facing inconveniences since there has been no replacement after the retirement of DRC, along with problems in financial allocations with the retirement of the DDO concerned. Meanwhile, the public has recommended the immediate employment of a new DRC and DDO at Kolkata Manipur Bhavan.
“The issues at the State Bhavans are due to the negligence of responsibilities on the part of the State government as their maintenance and functioning are its responsibilities,” the complainants said while adding an appeal for investigations to be initiated in the illicit recruitment of drivers and the re-engagement of retired staff so that such illicit incidents do not occur in the future.
