5th International Day of Yoga observed state wide
Overdraft neutralised, RBI would lift the ban soon: CM

Chief minister, N. Biren Singh said that the overdraft has been neutralised and the restrictions on the financial transactions by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would be lifted soon. This was announced by him at the celebration of the 5th International Day of Yoga held at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak, Imphal East today.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, chief minister said that if there is unity, sincerity and transparency in governance, then the government would gain trust from the people. He mentioned that trust is the most important component so as to have peace and tranquillity amongst the communities. Chief minister further stated that India is being transformed under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi with his slogans such as ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ ‘Saab ka Vishwas’ etc.
Stating the significance of Yoga, chief minister said that the true essence of Yoga is to strengthen our mind as well as body, preserve the nature and to build compassion and kindness for others. While stating that “Health is Wealth”, he stated that all need to have a healthy mind to bring peace, tranquillity and harmony in the society.
While delivering his presidential address, Health minister, L. Jayantakumar said that good health and well being of every citizen is the priority of the present government. He mentioned that Yoga is such a practice to strengthen one’s body, mind and soul to have good health.
During the function, chief minister led others in performing common Yoga poses.
CAF and PD, minister, Karam Shyam, agriculture minister, V. Hangkhanlian, MLA Lamlai assembly constituency, Ksh. Biren, chief secretary, DGP, top civil and police officers, paramilitary officials etc. attended the function.
It may be mentioned that the International Day of Yoga is being celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015 after the unanimous declaration by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2015.
Meantime, an integrated programme on 5th International Day of Yoga was celebrated at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sangaiprou, Imphal today.
It is said that the idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his speech at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), on September 27, 2014. A draft resolution on ‘International Day of Yoga’ was introduced by India’s Ambassador to UN, Asoke Kumar Mukerji. The draft received support from 177 nations, the highest number of co-sponsors for any UNGA resolution. Thereafter, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
On June 21, 2015, nearly 35,985 people, including PM Modi and dignitaries from 84 nations, performed 21 asanas (yoga postures) for 35 minutes in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, principal of the school, Victor Arul as chief guest said that with the initiatives of Modi, the day has been celebrating at international level since 2015. By performing various forms of yoga asanas (posture of yoga) one can cure all the diseases in the entire world, he added.
International yoga trainer and secretary, yoga training and research centre, Manipur, Ganga Ningombam said the word yoga is derived from Sanskrit and it means “to unite or join” and briefly it means union of body consciousness. By performing yoga, one can bring mental harmony and can win almost all forms of diseases, he said.
He appealed all to perform yoga by knowing its benefits stating that it would be useless to perform them without knowing the correct form of the postures.
Head of office, Regional Outreach Bureau, Imphal, K. Sonikumar Singh; director, PIB, Imphal, Abhishek Dayal attended the programme as guests of honour.
The occasion was also held today at the hall of R.K Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Jiribam; organised by Kreeda Bharati-Manipur, Jiribam Zilla, added our Jiribam correspondent.
A programme was also observed today at the hall of Jiribam Higher Secondary School (JHSS) which was organised jointly by 37BN Assam Rifles and 14BN NCC. While the programme held at R.K Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya was attended by a total of 150 persons, the observation at JHSS witnessed the participation of over 50 NCC cadets.
Meanwhile, our correspondent from Tamenglong stated that an International Yoga Day observance programme was held today at camp of 23 Assam Rifles, organised by Nehru Kendra Sangathan-Tamenglong and 23 Assam Rifles.
The programme which was held under the theme of “Yoga for Peace and harmony” was led by Mahesh Changsha as yoga master, and it commenced from 6:00 am at the Helipad of the AR camp with a total of about 650 participants.
Speaking to the IFP on the sidelines of the Yoga event, adjutant of 23 AR, major, PS Rathore said, “The ‘5th International Yoga Day 2019’ was observed by Tamenglong Battalion of AR wherein a month long yoga training culminated with the grand yoga session at different outposts.” To mark the importance and significance of yoga in one’s life, June 21 is observed as International Day of Yoga every year since 2015, he added.
While elucidating on the benefits of Yoga for those who suffer from lifestyle diseases and fitness disorders, he also asserted that Yoga has become an indispensable and an effective stress buster and an alternative to physical regime in the daily lives of security forces personnel. “Yoga education helps in self-discipline and self-control which leads to immense amount of awareness, concentration and high level of consciousness,” he claimed.
Our correspondent from Thoubal further added that under the supervision of the district mission director, District Health Society-Thoubal, ‘International Day of Yoga 2019’ was observed in 8 Health and Wellness Centres in Thoubal district.
They include: (i) Health and Wellness Centre, Khongjom; (ii) Health and Wellness Centre Langathel; (iii) Health and Wellness Centre, Tekcham; (iv) Health and Wellness Centre, Tentha; (v) Health and Wellness Centre, Wangkhem; (vi) Health and Wellness Centre, Thoubal Khunou; (vii) Health and Wellness Centre Haokha and (viii) Health and Wellness Centre, Waithou.
In the meantime, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Imphal East, Manipur, observed ‘5th International Yoga Day 2019’ today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace compound, Imphal.
A release stated that the observation was held under the theme of “Yoga for Health, Peace and Harmony.” While mentioning that a total of over 350 youths from different clubs and Mahila Mandals attended the programme, it also stated that as a part of the observation, a mass yoga demonstration was conducted by a team led by MO (AYUSH), K. Basanta Singh.
A series of month long activities related to Yoga carried out by troops of AR culminated with the 5th International Day of Yoga observation, said release from IGAR (South).
It stated the AR co-ordinated the participation of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and families at a state level event today held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium which was organised by the directorate of AYUSH, govt. of Manipur. The AR personnel along with other CAPF joined the civilians and participated in the Common Yoga Protocol conducted at the stadium. A total of around 1400 persons including troops and families took part in the observation.
International Yoga Day was also celebrated at various locations of Imphal valley by Keithelmanbi Sector AR including Mantripukhri, Keithelmanbi, Thoubal and Tulihal battalions and their Company Operating Bases, it said.
The release also mentioned that Somsai Sector AR, Pallel Sector AR and Kakching Sector AR celebrated International Yoga Day at various locations, the release added.
The occasion was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour by cadets of NCC Group Imphal in a total of twenty locations across the beautiful state of Manipur, said a release by PIB (DEFENCE WING).
Approximately three thousand cadets, led by five officers and assisted by sixty ANOs/CTOs, twenty two PI Staff, many principals, teachers and staff took part in this mega event, it said.
Also, Eastern Command with an aim to promote better mental and physical health of people through Yoga celebrated 5th International Yoga Day on the theme ‘Yoga for Heart’ all over the Command theatre, it added.
