Imbroglio in govt in process of being resolved: Minister Radheshyam
IMPHAL | Jun 16
Education minister, Thokchom Radheshyam, who landed here today afternoon after meeting central leaders at Delhi, said that the ongoing imbroglio among elected representatives and ministers in the state government will be resolved at the earliest.
Responding to posers by media at Imphal International Airport upon his return, Radheshyam stated that there is no crisis within the government as presented in the social media and some media reports. However, he admitted that there is difference of opinions among the ministers.
“There have been misunderstandings among the ministers over difference of opinions, just as misunderstandings occur among family members sometimes doesn’t mean that there is an ongoing political battle against each other”, he said while asserting that there will be no change of guard or chief minister.
The minister, however, refrained from divulging into details the ongoing controversy regarding portfolio reallocation and the ministry reshuffle, but indicated that the ministry reshuffle may take place anytime soon.
While noting that the portfolios were stripped off from Dy CM Yumnam Joykumar and power minister Th. Biswajit as corrective measure by the CM against the backdrop of the overdraft, he also refused to comment whether the portfolios will be granted back but told that everything will be known once the CM returns.
“BJP is a national party and a strong organisation with own philosophy, discipline and ideology. The national leaders will have the final say to decide on any complaints or grievances” he said and added that the ongoing controversy is in the process of resolving at the national level.
Clarifying against media reports regarding the ministers including chief minister rushing in to Delhi the post-overdraft scenario, he said that the ministers were following the formality of calling on respective union ministers of the newly formed central government.
When queried about the agenda of the meeting, he said that every department has different central sponsored schemes and flagship programmes for which the state need funds from the central government. The state ministers requested the respective union ministers to grant more funds and to pay more attentions to the needs and concerns of the state.
For education department, there has been an increase in earmarked amount by about Rs 200 crore compared to last year, stated the education minister.
As intimated by Radheshyam, the chief minister is likely to return in Imphal in the next day or two after meeting the union home minister. The CM had earlier appraised the prime minister, finance minister about the current financial position of the state, he added.
Commenting on the current financial position of the state, Radheshyam reiterated Dy CM Joykumar and stated that the state faces unfavourable financial status every year. However, for this year, the overdraft arises out of the delay in allotment of central share of funds pertaining to the model code of conduct of the parliamentary election; he explained.
The government will see to it that it does not have any impact on disbursal of salaries and pensions, said Radheshyam.
The education minister also expressed hope that the public can now expect better things at stock with efficient governance and development as key goals.
MLA, Lamsang assembly constituency, S. Rajen, who took the same flight from Delhi with minister Radheshysm, also intimated that there will be no change of guard. The ongoing controversy is an internal matter and will be sorted out at the earliest by the national leaders, he stated. He further added that whether the portfolios removed from Dy CM Joykumar and minister Biswajit will be restored or not will also be sorted out with a meeting of both the sides.
