AR conducts awareness drive on child labour

Tulihal and Keithelmanbi Battalions of 9 Sector Assam Rifles observed “World Day against Child Labour” by organising an awareness drive on prevention of child labour on June 12, said a release from IGAR (South).
With an aim to raise awareness among the students, Patsoi Company Operating Base (COB) of Tulihal Battalion organised a Debate cum Seminar on prevention of Child Labour at Combined Public school, Sagol Tongba. The Seminar commenced with a brief opening address by COB Commander followed by an informative lecture on prevention of ‘Child Labour’.
As a part of the Seminar, a debate competition was also organised for the students; and during the debate, various issues concerning child labour were brought forward by the students, it said.
It also mentioned that Canchipur COB of Keithelmanbi Battalion also organised an interactive lecture on Child Labour at Standard Royal Mission School, Canchipur. Interactive sessions were also held after the lecture where all the queries raised by the students were answered.
During the awareness drive, students were informed about the ill effects of child labour along with the various Government schemes available to assist the children entangled in the “social evil”. The events witnessed the attendance of over 250 students and staff of the school, it added.
The release also added that Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles conducted a security meet at Chandrakhong Company Operating Base (COB) which was attended by village chiefs and members along with representatives of local youth clubs.
During the security forum, the locals were sensitised and updated on current situation existing in the area of responsibility.
An interaction session on necessary measures required to be undertaken by locals in synergy with Assam Rifles for maintaining a strict vigil against illicit activities in the area was also carried out during the forum. In addition to the security issues, future action plan in respect of civic action projects like medical camps, recruitment in Assam Rifles and Army and career counselling for youth were also discussed during the meet.
Meanwhile, Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Riffles conducted a motivational cum carrier guidance talk at Peh Village, Ukhrul district. The talk programme was conducted as a part of AR’s efforts to guide and encourage the youth to pursue the Armed Forces, sports and other avenues, it added.
