The final vote count of the 17th Lok Sabha election for the two Manipur seats is out and BJP candidate, Rk Ranjan secured 2, 63,632 votes out of total 7, 60,457 votes inclusive of the votes recorded on postal ballot papers.
He exceeded 17,755 votes from his nearest rival INC candidate, O. Nabakishore, who secured a total of 2,45,877 votes. Followed behind in the third position for the race to the Indian parliament is CPI candidate Dr. Nara, who secured a total of 1,33,813 votes.
In the outer Manipur parliamentary constituency (OMPC), NPF candidate, Dr. Lorho got 3, 63,527 votes inclusive of votes recorded on postal ballots, exceeding his nearest rival the BJP candidate, Benjamin Mate by 73,782 votes. Benjamin Mate got 2, 89,745 votes in the OMPC election. The total number of electors who exercised their franchise in the OMPC was 8, 59,995.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in inner Manipur seat Dr Rk Ranjan and Dr Lorho S. Pfoze fielded by the Naga People’s Front (NPF) in outer Manipur seat won the election, toppling down the Congress party.
Earlier, both the seats from Manipur in the Indian Lok Sabha were held by two Congress MPs; Th. Meinya and Thangso Baite in inner and outer seats respectively.
BJP candidate, Rk Ranjan got his highest number from BJP stronghold and home polling of the chief minister which is Heingang assembly constituency. He got 20,176 votes there and received similar high numerical value from other BJP stronghold like Thongju and Andro assembly constituencies. Compared to other BJP stronghold; he received lesser votes in Keirao assembly constituency, where the INC candidate exceeded him by 982 votes.
Out of the 32 assembly segments in IMPC, INC candidate, O. Nabakishore secured his highest number of votes from Lilong assembly constituency reaching upto 16,333 votes. He also received similar high numbers in other Congress stronghold like Thoubal, Wangkhem, Wangkhei, Patsoi assembly constituencies etc. In contrary, the BJP candidate got higher votes than INC candidate in Thangmeiband assembly constituency which is also considered as a Congress stronghold. Ranjan exceeded Nabakishore by 929 votes in the assembly constituency.
CPI candidate, Nara exceeded the other candidates in two assembly constituencies at the heart of the Imphal city. In Uripok assembly constituency, he got 7,032 votes exceeding both INC and BJP candidate by more than 3,000 votes. Similarly, in Keishamthong assembly constituency he got 7,693 votes exceeding the duo by more than 2,000 votes.
Out of the total electors in the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency (IMPC), as much as 2614 electors opted for NOTA as their choice. The vote received by NOTA is larger than seven candidates who were also vying for the inner seat.
NPF candidate, Lorho hugely exceeded the BJP and INC candidates in around 10 assembly constituencies like Mao, Karong, Tadubi, Chingai, Ukhrul, Phungyar, Chandel, etc. However, he received minimal votes from the plain areas.
BJP candidate managed to secure maximum votes from Saikot assembly constituency where he got 30,456 votes. He also secured highest votes compared to INC and NPF candidates in Singhat, Henglep, Thanlon, Saitu and Saikul assembly constituencies.
INC candidate, K. James got the highest number of votes in more than four assembly constituencies in the valley such as Khangabok, Wangjing Tentha, Wabgai, Sugnu, etc. He received the highest number of votes from Khangabok assembly constituency reaching upto 20,279 votes, exceeding the other candidates by more than 10,000 votes.
Out of eight candidates vying for the outer Manipur seat, NOTA votes exceeded votes received by two candidates.
