‘It must be ensured that agents are present at the polling stations’
“NEIDP welcomes the announcement made by ECI that re-polling will be conducted at 12 polling stations for the 7th Lok Sabha election inner MP election. However, the returning officer must ensure that all the agents of each political party are present at the polling stations during the polling.”
This was stated by NIEDP, inner candidate, RK Anand at a press conference held today at the state office, North East India Development Party (NEIDP), Tera Sapam Leikai.
He further said that for the past many years, Manipur has been facing the issues of proxy voting, rigging and booth capturing during elections. These incidents used to occur at the hilly areas but this time, it happened in a greater scale at the polling stations in the valley areas, and this has been very unfortunate, he said.
Underground outfits terrorising the voters has been a frequent occurrence at the hills and for this year also, a repolling was conducted.
“Moreover, votes were being brought by the candidates. This shows that the election was a sham and not needed at all,” he stated. The announcement for repolling at 12 polling stations came as a bit of a surprise is this was not expected, he added.
It would be a better option to carry out a scrutiny review regarding the matter. As proxy voting, rigging and booth capturing happened in most of the assembly constituencies, doing a repolling at only 12 polling stations would not be satisfactory, he said.
To make the repolling free and fair, the returning officer must work with dedication. It should be ensured that the repolling is not being done just for namesake, he said. As for the rumours being spread around that NEIDP is working hand in glove with national parties, this nonsense must be stopped immediately, he stated.
NEIDP will not fall into such low standards of working style. It has been kept crystal clear that the party goes against national parties, he said.
Sate president, NEIDP, Ng. Bijoy stated that the party welcomes the announcement for repolling made by ECI. The acts of terrorising voters at several areas must be halted, he said. Otherwise, Democracy will cease to carry any meaning, he added.
