Another grenade found at LFSIMPHAL | Apr 22
One hand grenade was found today near the gate of Little Flower School, Sangaiprou for the second time within this month.
It is said the bomb was found and identified by some security personnel of 5 JAK Rifle while performing daily patrol along the road at about 6 am.
State police rushed to the spot but they were not allowed to enter the spot by the security personnel who were already in the spot. Even media personnel were also not allowed to get inside the spot.
Additional superintendent of police Imphal West came to the spot and negotiated the matter and the security personnel gave co-operation with the state forces.
Bomb diffuse squad (BDS) of 5 JAK rifles tried to diffuse the grenade at about 7.20 am by using charge but the process was repeated at about 7.45 am as the bomb was not able to dispose.
It is said that the bomb was planted in a box filled with nails. Later the bomb was disposed of at isolated place of Langol Game Village.
It may be mentioned that another hand grenade was found planted in front of the same school gate on April 2.
Speaking to IFP, superintendent of police, Imphal West, Meghachandra said security measures has beefed up at all the catholic schools in order to prevent such incidents in the near future.
In connection with the incident, a cordon and search operation was conducted today evening at Thangal Bazar area. The operation was also conducted at MG Avenue, Delhi motors, Majorkhul, Hotel Nongin and Dharmasala area.
The operation was conducted from 4.15 pm to 5 pm and in that a total of 540 males and 15 females were detained and verified. Out of which, 23 persons were detained and handed over to City police for further verification, for not being able to produce valid identification cards.
