Garland of victory was placed on neck of wrong person says Gaikhangam
“The present state government took a weak stand on the issue of CAB, 2019. The BJP government has been excessively obsessed with cheap popularity and befooling the people with false and fake promises which were its strategies to win the hearts of public. But people are gradually realising it.”
Coming down heavily against the ruling state government, CLP leader, O Ibobi Singh, who is also Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, made the statement in a press meet held today at Congress Bhawan, BT Road. He said that Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is yet to be satisfied even though the contentious Bill was not tabled in Rajya Sabha (RS). They have the apprehension that the Bill may be passed by promulgating ordinance, he stated.
The present President of India is just a ‘Rubber Stamp’ of the BJP government and if the Bill is moved as ordinance, it will be surely passed, he further stated.
Considering all these possible scenarios, MPCC demanded the state government to take a resolution for complete withdrawal and scrapping of the Bill in coming assembly session which is going to commenced from coming February 20. They also demanded that the contentious Bill should not be passed forcibly by promulgating ordinance before enforcement of election model code of conduct, Ibobi said.
Ibobi hinted, “The non-discussion of CAB in RS is not the end of it and we have to be vigilant so that an ordinance like the Triple Talaq is not brought out in the sly.”
Recalling the movement led by Congress party against this Bill since last year, he said that MPCC held a number of awareness programme spreading the negative consequences of implementing CAB, 2019 in various part of India. Even during recent agitation they were actively involved as a messenger of public but not to get political mileage, he added.
He further said that BJP led government in the state never stood firmly against bill. Instead, they urged for insertion of some clauses in it to satisfy their “masters” in Delhi and to take president’s assent of Manipur People’s Bill, he added.
It is only after the pressure of the people and knowing the strength of opposition parties that they failed to table the bill in RS to avoid humiliating defeat, he added and criticised the BJP Manipur Pradesh for organising a grand reception programme.
He clarified that the BJP has absolute majority in Lok Sabha, so Congress party was helpless to defeat the Bill in Lok Sabha and they walked out on the day of passing the Bill as it is also the highest form of protest in democratic form of government.
During the conference, newly appointed president MPCC, Gaikhangam said that the central leaders were not able to table the Bill in Rajya Sabha because of fearless agitation and movement roused by people of State where many women and common people got injured. But instead of felicitating them, the BJP supporters had placed garland on neck of the wrong person. “This is very unfortunate and shameful deed,” he added.
It may be mentioned that BJP Manipur Pradesh had felicitated chief minister, N. Biren Singh yesterday at Hatta Kangjeibung for his contribution in not tabling the Bill in RS.
