Myanmar- India business summit and trade fair started at Sagaing, Myanmar
Consulate general of India, Mandalay and Sagaing district chamber of commerce and industry organised a two-day, Myanmar- India business submit and trade fair today at Town hall, Sagaing, Myanmar.
Chief minister of Sagaing, U Mint Nain and Nanda Singh Bhaisora, Consulate General of India, Mandalay were present in the function.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Indo-Myanmar association, Sh. Shamu said Indo-Myanmar Association (IMA) was established in 1995 and registered in 2003 under the Manipur Societies’ Registration Act, 1989 (Manipur Act No. 1 of 1990). The founder president of the Association, is Bijoy Kumar Langam who was born in Sittwe, Capital of Rakhine State in 1924.
“He passed I.A. from Jadsan College under Rangoon University in 1941. He, however, came to Manipur during Second World War. He is, indeed, a true son of the soil in this region of India and Myanmar. In fact, he was the first person who introduced learning of Burmese language in Manipur. Thus, Indo-Myanmar Association was able to produce a number of Manipuris to know the language. Thereafter, Manipur University, too, managed to open Centre for Myanmar Studies and imparted one year Diploma Course in the language,” he added.
He said the association was able to publish two books for learning Myanmarese under his guidance. Now, on the demise of the founder president, he was elected unanimously for the post on April 23, 2017 and continued to hold it till date.
IMA’s principal objective is to enhance the contribution to the growth and development of the close relationship in socio-economic, trade commerce including tourism, health sector in the region thereby increasing the economy of the people of both countries, i.e., India and Myanmar under Act East Policy, Shamu added.
Since IMA, being a non-profiting organisation under Least Developed Country (LDC), it seeks to develop a good relationship with Myanmar in general and Sagain in particular and also to involve in the activities for promotion of the economy of the people in this region. During these two days, programme, medicines for ailing persons and wheel chairs for disables are also being deliberated. Every year, the association organised programme for Indian Nationals to visit Myanmar and to appraise rich heritage and unique cultural ties between the two neighbouring countries. And Myanmarese nationals are also encourage to visit Jndia as well.
He also gave his warm regards to Manipur for letting them take part in the recent Sangai festival held in Manipur and for giving free visits of 20 Myanmarese to the State.
He appreciated Consulate General of India, Mandalay who have given them not only timely VISA on land route but also, wished them for safe and secure journey by bidding Flag-Off.
There are business stalls for displayed and people’s attraction, and others. Some 7 stalls from Manipur and about 30 others from Myanmar were opened.
