Social activist, Ningtangpou Kamei no more

Social activist, Ningtangpou Kamei passed away on January 10 at JNIMS, Imphal after prolonged illness. He was 69 years of age.
Ningtangpou Kamei was born and brought at Namkaolong (Keikao) village; and during his lifetime, Ningtangpou served as youth chairman of Zeliangrong People Convention; president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam Manipur and Nagaland); president of Zeliangrong Boudi (Assam Manipur and Nagaland) and founding member of Zeliangrong Prayer Cell. He also contested in the general elections of Manipur from Jiribam assembly constituency.
On his sudden demise, condolence messages have poured in from several organisations
A condolence message from opposition leader of Nagaland, TR Zeliang stated that Ningtangpou Kamei was a dynamic individual with a daring personality who had genuine concern for the unity of Zeliangrong and never shied away from speaking his mind.
“From being a president of Zeliangrong Boudi (AMN) to being a divisional president of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF), Executive member of state unit, he did justice to the position that he had held in his time,” he continued adding that one remarkable feat under his leadership was the formation of Zeliangrong Elders’ Forum of Peace Broker (ZEFPB) with the sole purpose of unification of all Naga National factions in Zeliangrong areas.
“His untimely demise today is a great loss to the people of Zeliangrong I along with my family members extend to our heartfelt condolence and prayed to the Almighty God to grant solace to the members of the bereaved family. And let the departed soul rest in peace,” TR Zeliang added.
Former president of Zeliangrong Boudi, Thomas Kamei has also extended his condolences over the demise of Ningtangpou Kamei stating that under his leadership, the enthusiasm of the Zeliangrong People Convention’s movement reached its peak adding that “It would be difficult to fill up the vacuum caused by the untimely demise of Zeliangrong leader.”
“He will be remembered in every living soul and his services toward Zeliangrong community in particular and humanity as a whole. May the Lord keep his soul rest in peace,” Thomas Kamei added.
The last rituals for Ningtangpou Kamei were performed at Duigailong village under Tamenglong police station. Chairman, Zeliangrong Union-Tamenglong zone and other dignitaries also joined the rituals and expressed their condolences.
Ningtangpou Kamei is survived by his wife, six children and seven grandsons and granddaughters.
