‘BJP is lawbreaker, not Kishorchandra’
They are trying to silence and strangulate public: Joykishan
IMPHAL | Nov 29
“The chief minister himself was arrested on charges of sedition when he was an editor, the court let him go then, and he should know that. Arresting someone arbitrarily for saying something against the government when the judiciary has let him go; the BJP is the lawbreaker and not Kishorchandra,” Congress spokesperson and MLA of Thangmeiband assembly constituency, Kh. Joykishan told reporters today.
The MLA met Ranjita, wife of arrested scribe, Wangkhem Kishorchandra alias KC and consoled her at Keisamthong Moirangningthou community hall. Ranjita Wangkhem said that her husband was released by the court on bail but in less than 24 hours, he was taken away from their residence by policemen who came in civvies, saying that the SP wants to have a word with him. They said that they will not arrest him did not even let us come on our free will, she added.
“He was taken into the station and I could not meet him. In evening time, I was told that he was taken to Sajiwa jail, on what grounds he is arrested we do not know still,” she said that there was another episode before when KC was arrested on very flimsy matters over a Facebook post and questioned if her husband is being targeted by the government. “No one focus on the Rani of Jhanshi episode and what KC wants to say, but only blames my husband for using expletives, the court gave us justice and released him on bail. Now, they throw him in jail without reason,” she lamented.
Joykishan said that the chief judicial magistrate, L. Tonsing made it very clear in his verdict that there is no case of sedition against Kishorechandra, other sections charged against him are bailable. The court has given him bail, yet he was not given arrest memo and put into jail by sheer might.
“This dictatorial action of suppressing the judiciary will remain etched in history, they have no respect for the verdict of the courts, there is an undeclared emergency in the State right now. He mentioned further that the media houses are mostly afraid to come out openly against the Biren fearing reprisal but supports Kishorchandra in heart.
“90 percent of the journalist would condemn the incident, yet they are afraid to raise their voices and with this incident its exemplary that the BJP will threaten anyone who opposes them , BJP government tries to subjugate all who comes out against them by sending CBI, ED, NIA, Police etc. we know now with these incidents like Kishorechandra’s that arbitrary arrests are made,” he said further that AIR’s programme of taking an editor’s opinion was stopped because an editor said something against the government.
“We cannot take the incident of Kisorchandra as a singular event but rather that it is a means by the government to silence and strangulate the public, the public needs to say no,” he said.
Joykishan added that BJP will say that media is the fourth pillar yet arrests those who voice opinion against them. “This government itself is unconstitutional, where in India will you find one person elected in another political party yet given a ministerial berth by another party, where is the democracy, where is the constitution? The ruling party feels that the public are like sheep and that they can do anything. If they arrest someone for saying something against the government, then I openly say that the government is not being democratic but tyrannical, let them come and arrest me, I challenge them,” he concluded.
The motive of arresting Kishorchandra and putting him in jail is still not known at present.
