Smugglers arrested with gold bars worth around Rs. 14 lakh

MOREH | Sept 11 : A Force Traveller CR-V16 vehicle without registration number along with its driver and two other occupants were detained during a mobile frisking and checking operation conducted on September 11 near Kondong Lairembi Temple at Moreh by a team of commandos, Moreh.
The team was led under the command of additional superintendent, Tengnoupal, Khamnam Robinsun and led by DSP (CDO), Moreh, Thomas Thokchom, under the supervision of SP, Tengnoupal, Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh conducted frisking at the said area as per reliable information.
On spot verification and checking, the detained individuals disclosed that they had already transported gold bars twice earlier on two different occasions and it was their third attempt. Three gold bars weighing 498.2 grams with an approximate market value of Rs. 14,40,000, and the said vehicle along with four mobile phone handsets were seized from their possession.
The detained individuals were also arrested from the spot, and they have been identified as Telem Birjit Singh, 46, son of T. Nilachand Singh of Yourabung Maning Leikai, Imphal East; Yumnam Ibohal Singh, 44, son of Yumnam Yaima Singh of Yourabung Maning Leikai, Imphal East and Laishram Manihar Singh, 55, son of L. Maipak Singh of Bidyasagar, Jiribam.
