3 Myanmar nationals out of 30-member car rally team turned back from border
MOREH | Sept 4 : Three Myanmar nationals, who were part of a team of 30 members that came on 12 vehicles to take part in the Indian Asian Friendship Car Rally, were turned back from the border at Moreh as they did not possess proper documents.
The team made of 27 Thai and three Myanmarese individuals were coming towards Moreh to take part in the Car Rally scheduled to be held on September 12 at Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. As they were being checked at the Immigration office of ICP at Moreh, the three Myanmarese were found carrying E-Visa, and they were turned back from the border.
Regarding the incident, the team waited from the morning till 5:000 pm in the evening at the ICP office waiting to be given entry for the entire team from the Indian officials. However, as they were informed that the three Myanmarese individuals would not be allowed to cross the border, the trio had to bid farewell to the remaining team and make their return journey.
On the other hand, the Myanmarese delegates expressed their unhappiness and disappointment questioning how India and Myanmar can build friendship when a traveller who has all the remaining documents, is not allowed to enter one country over some mistake regarding E Visa.
They further expressed their doubts against the Indian officials whether the Imphal-Mandalay bus service will be successful judging by today’s incident.
It may be recalled that the border between the two countries was opened in a ceremony held on August 8, with the aim to bring more closeness between the two countries and help boost business, tourism and cultural exchange.
Afterwards, the remaining 27 Thai nationals moved forward with 11 vehicles in the evening. It is said that the team will return on September 14 accompanied by travellers from India.
