First ever night football tourney kicks off

The ‘Night Football Invitation Tournament’ was kicked off today for the first time ever at Kuki Football Academy Playground at D. Phaihel village, Kangpokpi district with the participation of thousands fans and spectators.
The 16 invited teams will be played in the tournament in knock out basis and it will be culminated on October 6.
The first match of the knockout game was played today between Milui Football Club and Maohing Youth Club at 3 pm while the second match between Leimakhong Youth Club and Champhai Area was played at 6 pm.
Kamgunmang hattrick in the 50th, 82nd and 89th minutes respectively gives Milui victory over Maohing Youth Club and qualified for the next knock out round while Maohing Youth Club have to packed their luggage.
Luntinlal of Maohing YC and Janggouhao of Milui FC were booked by referee for their unsporting behaviors in the 78th and 89th minutes respectively.
Kamgunmang of Milui FC was declared Man of the Match and awarded with a trophy.
In the second match, Champhai Area edged past Leimakhong Youth Club 5-4 in penalty shootout as both team ended a goalless draw in the regulation time.
Leimakhong custodian Lovejoy was declared Man of the Match and awarded with a trophy.
The tournament carries prize money of Rs. 50,000 with a trophy for the champion while Rs. 30,000 with a trophy for first runner up, followed by Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 for 3rd and 4th place respectively.
Individual prize like Best Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Striker, Top Scorer, hattrick and Man of the Tournament will be awarded while in every match, ‘Man of the Match’ will be selected and awarded with a trophy.
The night football tournament has attracted many football lovers of the district as they could experience the night football tourney for the first time and it is has become the talk of the town.
Thangboi Kipgen, the football lover behind the initiative, said that his passion to instituted Kuki Football Academy to develop the quality of Manipur football with special emphasis on Kuki football upto the scope of International standard.
He further said, “if things go well as per my plan the Kuki Football Academy at D. Phaihel will start operational very soon and once it is operational I have decided to enroll only Class III students in the academy with maximum intake capacity of 30”.
The dream of football lovers and true footballers will possibly be accomplished with the successful implementation of the Kuki Football Academy among the Kuki communities, he added.
Tomorrow, PSYC Saikul will play FC Ngailai in the first match at 3 pm while SGAYO and Ebenezer Football Club will play in the second match at 6 pm.
