NEROCA enters final, FC Zalen lose against AIM
IMPHAL | November 19: Durand Cup finalist NEROCA FC Sagakpham moved straight into the finals after thrashing Nambul Mapal Cultural Organisation (NACO), Nambul 4-1 in the first semi final double elimination knock out round of 11th Manipur State League, 2016 at main stadium, Khuman Lampak.
In the first half, NEROCA dominated the field and Ks Malemnganba Singh opened its account by scoring a goal in the 36th minute and lead the match in the first half 1-0.
After a break, the NEROCA players stepped up pressure on NACO their efforts were fruitful when S Subash Singh jumped on to a loose ball from the goalie to shoot home his team’s second goal in the 64th minute to post a 2-0 lead.
However, the NACO players fought back and a penalty was awarded against NEROCA FC in which Th Modhumangol made no mistake in finding the back of the net in the 79 th minute.
But NEROCA FC, who had an undefeated run in the league increased its score when M Govin Singh netted home, after collecting a free kick from Subash Singh in the 89th minute to lead 3-1.
Later, S Subash Singh came up with his second goal during injury time, off a cross from Resisangmei Khodaing and sealed the victory route to the final.
Meanwhile, FC Zalen, Sadar Hills lost at the hands of Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM), Khabam Lamkhai 2-0 in other match held today.
Once again, AIM beat past edged FC Zalen 2-0 today at main stadium in the double elimination loser bracket match.
Both sides got a perfect start even as AIM dominated the first half with a high-pace pressing game. AIM took the lead when Chingkhei slammed home a goal in the 19th minute sending their opponents scurrying to find an equaliser.
Although FC Zalen were struggling to make clear cut chances, they found it hard to settle. The first half ended at 1-0.
Rontan of AIM added second goal in the 59th minute and raised the score-line 2-0.
FC Zalen players struggled hard to equalise the goal. However, AIM defenders kept putting up a stiff resistance to the onslaught of the attackers. Patrick Kamei of FC Zalen missed a penalty in the 63rd minute.
AIM’s Pritam and Basanta were cautioned in the 35th and 63 rd minute and Paolenlal of FC Zalen was booked with a yellow card in the 55th minute.
On the other hand, two police personnel were injured while trying control the crowd in the gallery.
