The Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore (MMAB), condemning the recent surge in violence and series of attacks allegedly perpetrated by Kuki militants in and around Imphal valley, on Saturday urged the immediate disarmament of all Kuki militants to restore peace in the state.
A release jointly issued by MMAB President Maj Rajkumar Jhaljit Singh (Retd) and MMAB General Secretary Nongthombam John Singh, said that the unprovoked attacks came after a prolonged period of peace prior to the commencement of the 1st and 2nd phases of the 18th Lok Sabha Election in Manipur.
It also expressed grave concern over the emerging trend of targeting national assets and the National Highway, aiming to disrupt essential supplies to Manipur, particularly the Imphal valley and driving the propaganda of blaming Meiteis.
It condemned the malicious attacks by Kuki Militants along National Highway 2 on Wednesday and at Awang Sekmai on Friday. It also mentioned Saturday’s bomb attack at Narainseina area where two CRPF soldiers were killed and two others were injured.
It claimed that the recent elections in Manipur were remarkably successful despite all these challenges and said that the same underscores the resilient spirit of the populace. MMAB implored the Centre to act promptly and decisively in bringing the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the law, thereby preventing the recurrence of such heinous acts, it added.
