The Delhi Manipuri Society (DEMAS) appealed to the minister of State, Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Jitendra Singh, to declared ‘Ningol Chakkouba’ and ‘Patriots’ Day’ as restricted holidays from this year.

Language and script can set and define the standard of a society, said Education, Labour and Employment minister, Th Radheshyam while attending 11th Mayek Chatpa Numit as chief guest organised by Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasilol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) at GM Hall, here today.

The minister also launched the website of MEELAL www.meelal.org and said the challenge of non availability of books for the student pursuing graduation in Meitei Mayek will be made available on the website as softcopy where everyone can access to read the books.

Th Radheshyam further stated that books in Bengali script needs to be converted in Meitei Mayek so that the children of today’s generation could easily access the rich literature of Manipur, for which he urged the people of the state to come and work towards it together.

The programme was also attended by K Sushila, director, Art and Culture, L Mahabir Singh, director, Language Planning and Implementation and other officials and organising committee. Later, the minister distributed prizes to the winners of Meitei Mayek competition.

Grenade exploded

IMPHAL | May 18

Miscreant exploded a hand grenade at residential area of Singjamei Chinga Makha Liwa road late last night.

According to sources the bomb exploded around 11.55 pm near the residential gate of Wahengbam Shamu Singh, 56, son of Late W Gopal Singh of Chinga Makha Liwa road.

The First Mountain Bike Downhill Contest in the history of Manipur was held today at Phangrei-Jorcheng, Ukhrul district. The 1.8km downhill track contest was participated by 21 bikers from the state. The event was managed and organised by CHIKO ADVENTURES-Ukhrul as part of Shirui Lily Festival.

After successful broadcast of ‘Taibang Keithel’ and ‘Khongthang Kayani’, a new 13 episode play entitled ‘Matamgi Khongleida’ is scheduled for broadcast by All India Radio, Imphal on both channels Kangla (MW) and Sangai (FM) at 7:45 pm every Saturday from May 20 to August 12, said a release by AIR, Imphal.

It said, the radio serial play is adapted from 13 different short stories of 13 writers of Manipur and about 70 drama artists of AIR, Imphal will take part in the play, produced by Adhikarimayum Gitchandra Sharma.
