Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) said that boycotting of former deputy chief minister, Gaikhangam by United Naga Council (UNC) cannot be accepted by the people of Zeliangrong community.
Briefing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, the union’s president, Amu Kamei said the union had been existent as an apex body of all the Zeliangrong community from the time it was formed in the year 1925.
UNC boycotting one of the leader of the community who truly works in the interest of the public and who strongly stands to safeguard the integrity of the state is very unfortunate, he added.
“It is very inauspicious that UNC is singly targeting an MLA of Zeliangrong community since he strongly stands to safeguard the territorial and emotional integrity of the state,” said the president.
Stating that all the 60 MLAs of the state have sworn to protect the people and save the land, he asked “Why the UNC does not boycott the other 59 MLAs including the four MLAs from NPF party?”
The union asked UNC not to repeat such unwanted act in the future.
