Secretary of Zeliangrong Baudi Tamenglong Zone Customary Court (ZBTZCC), Disuang Pamei, in a press statement declared that the Pangki land dispute has been settled.

According to secretary ZBTZCC, Disuang Pamei,  Meithuanlung Gangmei, son of late Mathiukung Makhuam village had sued a case in the customary court of Zeliangrong Baudi Tamenglong zone, against Majoreng Khumba, son of late Saton, Pungmon/ Chingchen village regarding a disputed land, namely Pangki hill. The case was accepted and registered in the said court as case no. 1/1/2005, he added.

In view of the case, ZBTZCC had summoned both parties for several hearings. Further, with the consent of both the parties on March 11, 2016 and July 26, 2017 , a ‘water diving ordeal’ was agreed upon to determine the rightful owner of the Pangki land.

In his words, “as per their agreement, the court had taken the signature of both the contending individual, along with their witnesses. Then the court had ordered both the parties for the ‘water diving ordeal’ to be held on November 15, 2017, at Tamenglong headquarter.”

But on the decreed day, the defendant, Majoreng Khumba, refused the water diving ordeal and left the court with his parties. While Meithuanlung Gangmei stood firm for the ‘water diving ordeal’.

In light of the situation, as per Zeliangrong customary rules, on November 15, ZBTZCC openly declared the petitioner Meithuanlung Gangmei, as the rightful owner of the disputed land, namely Pangki hill.
