‘Women’s status better than in earlier days’

Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meira Lup (KANGLAMEI) today celebrated its 19th birthday at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul with health and family welfare minister, L. Jayantakumar as the chief guest.

Jayantakumar acknowledged the importance of women in building a strong society.

He asserted that the status and conditions of women have improved a lot than the earlier times with women taking active part in social activities and even in decision making bodies nowadays.

A society can never be fully developed without the help of women, he added.

Giving the keynote address, general secretary of KANGLAMEI, Y. Kamalini said that the association was formed 19 years ago during movement to repeal AFSPA Act 1958. It was formed with an aim to ban various intoxicants that can disrupt the growth of children and affect the society’s development in the whole state.

Kamalini said that the organisation have worked hand in hand with all ethnic communities of the state and also worked for better living with peace and respect of every community. She added that it will continue to serve people at its best level.

The function was also attended by other important personalities including president of UCM, Johnson Elangbam, president of ACOAM Lup, Ksh. Somorendro, president of KANGLAMEI, Y. Leirikleima among others.
