The Election Commission of India has ordered for a special drive from November 13 to November 30 during special summary revision of electoral rolls w.r.t. January 1, 2018, as the qualifying date (SSR, 2018) through house to house visit by booth level officers (BLOs), said a release.
Some of the objectives of the special drive as mentioned by the release are, maximisation of registration for electoral rolls, improving fidelity of electoral rolls, correcting the errors in electoral rolls; systematic and quality BLO field verification of forms received during SSR 2018, obtaining information about polling stations; obtaining family details/contact details to provide better electoral services, identifying future voters for focused voter education under SVEEP & SSR 2019 and others.
Further, it said that the five assembly constituencies namely Khundrakpam and Heingang from Imphal East district, Thangmeiband and Uripok from Imphal West district and Kakching, Kakching district have been identified to implement pilot project of mobile based ER management (BLO Net) as a proof of concept in the state of Manipur.
A three day orientation cum training programme of all EROs, AEROs, Eos, ESs, AESs and DEOs in the state had been conducted in CEO’s office, Lamphelpat, Manipur from November 8 to November 10, it added.
A meeting was also held today in the office of the chief electoral officer, Manipur, where the representatives of all recognised political parties in the state were sensitised on the objectives of the special drive and the various other activities to be undertaken in the drive, said the release.
The office of the chief electoral officer, Manipur, has further requested the general public and all political parties to fully co-operate with the booth level officers in carrying out the special drive.
