PFA rescues various wild animals

People for Animals Manipur rescued various wild animals recently, said a release.

The organisation received a peacock soft shell turtle from Amukcham Dinesh of Wangkhei Hijam Leirak, who found it climbing out of his pond. The turtle could have wandered out of a river or from captivity. It will be relocated at the water bodies of Keibul Lamjao national park with the approval of forest department.

Thockhom Chandra of Mayang Imphal Thana Maning handed over a displaced civet cat to PFA. He had found the animal inside his fish trap. Heikrujam Surjit from Uchol found a green whip snake in his kitchen garden and gave it to PFA. Both animals were relocated on the next day after rescue, maintained the release.

While an injured  Eurasian buzzard was handed over by Chongtham Santikumar of Heingang Awang Leikai, a water monitor lizard was rescued from Tapokpi Tulihal by Laishram Sunil of Wangkhem Huidrom Leikai, who saved it from some local children. The buzzard will undergo treatment at PFA’s animal shelter, it said.

Longjam Santa of Wangkhei Hijam Leirak and Konsam Lokendro of Kongba Khetri Leikai Torban handed over a mountain scope owl each.  One scope owl was relocated on the next day, while another succumbed to its injuries, it added.
