The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) in collaboration with Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Association, Irilbung will be organising a two day ‘Festival of Thang-Ta’ on May 21 and May 22 at the complex of Huyen Lallong, Irilbung, Imphal East.
A release said, the inaugural function will be attended by L Radhakishore Singh, chairman, Pollution Control Board and Khadi and Village Industries Board, Manipur as chief guest and Nodia Mangang, eminent Thang-Ta Guru as the guest of honour, and Prof H Tombi Singh, vice-chairman, JNMDA will preside over the function.
The festival is dedicated to the memory of (Late) Guru G Gourakishore Sharma, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee and Padmashree, and it will be devoted to the performances by 13 different groups of Thang-Ta.
Moreover, a 35 member troupe led by RK Nabindra Singh, Guruhan, Lai Haraoba, has left Imphal for a five days study programme today to participate in Kwatha Haraoba at Kwatha, Tengnoupal district.
