Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) is organising “International AIDS candle light memorial day 2017” May 21.
In connection with the observance a press meet was held at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking to media, M Sadananda Singh, organising committee of the function said with 33 million people living with HIV today, the international AIDS candlelight memorial serves as an important intervention for global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and giving new hope to new generations.
For the last few years number of deaths due to HIV or AIDS was high, in order to reduce for these deaths MNP+ is also organising awareness programmes since 1999. Hepatitis forum of Manipur (HepFom) along with MNP+ has also submitted a memorandum to the health minister of the state mentioning on the needs to roll out treatment for hepatitis C and the state government needs to take a strong stand on combating the issue, Sadananda added.
He further said, for 2017 MNP+ in collaboration with Manipur Aids Control Society (MACS) is observing the “International AIDS candle light memorial day 2017” under the theme “Ending AIDS together” in the state level with a free musical concert in Yaiskul Range Ground (YAC) as paying tribute to all the souls that had departed due to HIV or AIDS.
Sadananda also said, the musical night concert is not only for entertaintment but also to mobilise people from different communities and realise together the epidemic of HIV and to commit together to end AIDS forever.
