Government e-Market Place (GeM) was officially launched in the cabinet hall of the CM’s secretariat in a small function today.
A release said department of information technology, government of Manipur became the first department to procure product from the gem portal and the product was delivered and handed over to the chief minister by a registered seller in the GeM portal from the State. GeM is a completely paperless, cashless and system driven e-market place that enables procurement of common use goods and services with minimal human interface, it said.
It is a one stop government eMarketplace (GeM) to facilitate online procurement of common use goods and services required by various government department/ organisations, it further said.
GeM aims to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement, it continued. It provides the tools for e-bidding, reverse e-auction and demand aggregation to facilitate the government users to achieve the best value for their money, it added.
The portal was launched on August 9, 2016 by the commerce and industry minister, it said adding there are 1, 98, 277 products available under GeM portal. So far, 13, 125 government departments/agencies/societies had registered as buyers at GeM portal and there are 34, 734 registered seller and GeM potal, it said.
It may be recalled that government of Manipur had signed MoU with the ministry of commerce and industry, government of India on August 10, it said. Manipur is the 1st state in entire north east to sign MoU with the government of India to adopt GeM for government procurement, it added.
