The 115th birth anniversary of India’s fire brand activist, theorist and a political leader, Loknayak Joy Prakash Narayan or popularly known as JP was celebrated today at Manipur Press Club.

The event was organised by The Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Birthday Celebration Committee and Loktantra Senani Sangh, Purvanchal Kshetra Manipur (LSSPKM).

President of LSSPKM, M. Ibotombi Singh said JP was a great leader who shook the country and brought about a big revolution in the country and overthrew the then corrupt government of Indira Gandhi. His political career hit the peak in 1975 when he brought about a movement against emergency in the whole country, he said.

Ibotombi said that the Loktantra committee was formed in 2008 in the country. Manipur realised the importance of JP late and so the committee is formed only recently this year on June 10.

“His philosophies were admirable that includes corruption free, transparency and good governance among others, and we will work hard till his ideologies are realised and put to practice,” he added.

A condolence prayer was observed during the function remembering victims who sacrificed and lost their lives during Emergency (1975-1977). Former MLA of Kakching, Y. Thambal Singh, former chief minister Radhabinod Koijam among others who attended the function.
