Police seize Rs 8 lakh worth tobacco items

A police team led under the supervision of Imphal West additional SP (Ops) S Ibomcha Singh seized 84 bags of tobacco products worth around Rs 8 lakhs from the possession of one Brijesh Kumar Gupta, 34, son of (L)  Omkar Shahu of Uttar Pradesh, presently staying at Masajid road and one Ranjan kumar Bhagat, 33, son of Rameshwor Bhagat of Bihar, presently staying at Masajid road.
Later the two persons along with the seized items were handed over to the Food Safety Imphal, designated officer for necessary formalities.
The same team also arrested one overground worker of UNLF identified as Moirangthem Champion Singh 21, son of M Kedanath Singh of Kumbi Bazar, Bishenpur.
The team was led by officer-in-charge P Achouba Meitei under the supervision of Imphal West additional SP (ops) S Ibomcha Singh.
He was arrested from Moreh parking, Moirangkhom while trying to go to Myanmar to join the three months’ basic military training under the instruction of one Lemba.
From his disclosure it is known that he has been working under self-styled commander Lemba alias Eyamba of UNLF.
Later he was handed over to Imphal P.S. for necessary legal action.
